'Tis Grand I Tell Ya!

Just found out this morning (last to know it seems - then again I'm out of the social media loop) that Jen Storer and I have had our book Haggis McGregor and the Night of the Skull Moon shortlisted for the Aurealis Awards! A very nice surprise. I really enjoyed illustrating this - it's a brilliant little story. It's filled with so many great characters and well researched details (it's the little things that matter) that it doesn't really need my illustrations to bring it to life. It's also fantastically silly, which is very typical of Jen's work and why I loved working on it. One of those jobs that come along that you'd do even if no one paid you for it (as opposed to what a friend calls a 'books for white goods' job. Terrible isn't it! I don't do those.*) Anyway, it's nice for our Haggis to be noticed. I think it was the blood orange wig.

* Okay, there was that one time but we had a rabbit to feed and our fridge died.

Oh was it YOU that did those amazing illos?? I thought it was Gug. You better watch out Gus, having a disgruntled doppleganger can cause all sorts of trouble and woe... jx
PS Haggis has been told about shortlist. He's insufferable.

Yes Gug, as the Aurealis Awards press release would have you believe, did the illustrations. This is so wrong as I know for a fact that Gug was away hiking for the whole period that I illustrated your book Jen.
